Profile PictureJulie Kitzes

Julie grew up in a remote wooded area of Western Canada where she was accustomed to living in the wilderness and was raised with a deep respect for animals and nature, which is often reflected in her work. She immigrated to the U.S. by herself when she was 18, and though she’s lived in several states, has called Colorado home for over a decade. She’s always adored animals and originally set out to study veterinary medicine. However, after years in that line of work, a series of neurological conditions left her too ill for the physical demands that job entailed. After enduring five brain surgeries and feeling useless and lost due to constant health struggles, she decided to pursue her hobby of art seriously since she could do it on her own schedule with her own limitations. After one more brain surgery while in college, Julie graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration in December of 2017. Inspired by Art Nouveau and Pop Surrealism, and with an adoration for bright vivid colors, Julie’s work aims to be whimsical and eye-catching. Unable to focus on just one niche, Julie does children’s book and editorial illustrations, murals, pet portraits, graphic design, and more. She believes in creating impactful work that touches her audience while keeping art affordable and accessible. She resides in the Denver area with her amazing husband, Peter, and their lovable trouble-making cat, Roger.
